Tons of things. Fatigue, mostly. I'm afraid she's going to fall asleep when Ciel needs her, or at some crucial moment. Dizziness, loss of appetite, fading. It's more the worry that she needs to do it that's compelling me to act, but the side effects themselves aren't fun, either.

And it's addicting. Vampires back home enthrall others into becoming blood slaves. The bite's like a drug or beer, it carries you away from a place you don't want to be anymore. Makes the consequences seem less important.

Miss Aerith being asleep while the young master is in acute need of assistance will not be an issue. I will protect him, and as a safeguard I have enlisted a number of people who have agreed to protect him, should there be need for it.

[Should he notice any signs of long-term neglect of her duties to the young master, that will be a different story, and a very harsh conversation.]

Pretty decent, I guess. What did you have in mind?

I'm not sure. Normally I'd say we could make it look like you got injured - that would bring Aerith out for certain - but that would also risk making Sebastian look incompetent.

Do you have anyone on board you don't like?

Since you're the one asking, you're the one who should get hurt for this. We can say I was practising with my knives. She didn't seem to like them much.

That works. Sebastian may need to head off Collins, but I'm not positive. He might just say I deserve it for fucking around.

Are you practicing with throwing knives or knives that stab into you?

The second. I don't think I have the strength needed for throwing knives.

Actually you might be surprised. You've got a shorter arm than I do, so they're advantageous in an actual fight where your opponent's stronger. I use them all the time against vampires to make them go in the direction I want.

Remind me next port to look for or make shurikens for you. I think they might be a good destructive alternative to trying to stab an opponent with a longer reach.

That could be useful. Sebastian usually does it with kitchen knives. [But he's ridiculous.]

Yeah, kitchen knives take a lot more practice because of how they're balanced and that you're using them to carve, not throw. Sebastian's got centuries of experience on both of us. The ones I'm talking about have a much easier ramp-up skill level.
